Early Life
Prathap M was born on August 7, 1994. He comes from a small village called Watrap in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu. His father’s name is Murugavanam. His father is a medium-scale farmer. His mother’s name is Mullaikodi. She is a home maker. Prathap is the first graduate in his whole family. This is a very big achievement for his family. His family lives a simple life. They do not have much money. But they have great dreams.

Engineering Degree

The UPSC Journey
Prathap started preparing for UPSC Civil Services Exam. He joined Manidhanaeyam academy in Chennai. It is a not-for-profit academy. He studied there with great discipline. Later, he joined another private academy for interview training. He did not take many attempts. He cleared the exam in his very first try. This is very rare. Most candidates take many years.
Many fail again and again. But Prathap succeeded in one go. The results came on May 31, 2017. He got All India Rank 21. He became the top scorer in Tamil Nadu. He was only 22 years old. Why He Chose IAS

He became Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation and Managing Director of Coimbatore Smart City Limited. From November 2023, he was Deputy Secretary to the Government. Most importantly, on February 2, 2025, he became District Collector of Tiruvallur. He still holds this position today in June 2026. His Famous Work
One of Prathap’s most famous works happened in Tiruvallur district. This district is near Chennai. It grows fast. But it faced water crisis. Groundwater was drying. Many borewells were abandoned. People had no water for farming or drinking. Prathap took action. He converted more than 1200 abandoned borewells into useful water sources.
